The fascinating Concrete House project by RAW Architecture Workshop, has featured in a recent episode of the long running Grand Designs television series.
We developed the design for the Concrete House in collaboration with RAW Architecture Workshop and Cemex. A new self-compacting fibre reinforced concrete product was used throughout, which enabled casting of very slender structural sections and an overall reduction in reinforcement of around 40%, compared to conventional concrete construction. In addition, an ‘insulating concrete’ mix was utilised to prevent thermal bridging. It was described in the programme as ‘a radical piece of engineering, built beautifully, yet full of the imperfections we all have’. We would like to wish Adrian and Megan all the best in their new home!
