As part of the London Borough of Southwark and the GLA’s wider What Walworth Wants programme, engineersHRW have collaborated with architects We Made That to deliver a new extension and refurbishment to the existing 1960s library building.

The refurbishment is designed to increase usage, provide a flexible public space and introduce new uses to the library such as community group meetings or local businesses. The colourfully clad extension is distinctive on the high street and provides a new lease of life for this valued community asset.

The project was delivered on a very tight budget with a four-month programme. It has been featured in various architectural journals such as the AJ and Dezeen.
