The Active Base watersports centre is located at the southern tip of Lake Windermere within the National Trust’s Fell Foot Park. The new facilities provide a base for sailing, rowing and swimming clubs, tourists and local school groups. The project provided a collection of three new buildings to house a clubhouse, meeting rooms, kitchen, changing rooms and boat storage areas.

The accommodation is raised on a robust reinforced concrete frame to allow for flood events.  A timber and SIPs frame was installed above this to form a lightweight but well insulated structure with uninterrupted views over the lake. The use of SIPS encouraged an accelerated construction programme on this sensitive site.
