Chestnut Plantation
This new-build, single-storey residence in the New Forest was arranged around a courtyard with living accommodation along the north side and a workshop and studio along the south side. A series of pitched roof portal frames were designed to tight deflections tolerances that were governed by the highly glazed elevations. The frames are of hybrid construction, combining laminated veneer lumber (LVL) rafters and columns where exposed and well ventilated, with galvanised steel columns and tie beams where hidden within the cavity of the external masonry walls.
