Streatham and Clapham High School
The challenging brief for this project was to provide additional accommodation in the form of vertical and lateral extensions to an existing building dating from the 1930s. A CLT structure provided a robust and lightweight solution and permitted the exploration of expressed structure within the open library, 6th form and dining hall spaces. EngineersHRW developed a system of column and CLT panel connections that allowed an open arrangement not limited to panel widths, cleverly worked with hit and miss curved glulam columns in the dining room and slender fin columns within the library.
The project is the subject of a Timber Development UK building study.
