Corpus Christi College, Oxford
A competition-winning new build music venue and performance space within the grounds of the College at the University of Oxford. Corpus Christi was founded in 1517, and the new construction was set within the walls of a scheduled ancient monument in a registered garden and a conservation area. Neighbouring college buildings are all Grade I listed.
The new auditorium has been constructed tight to the medieval city walls, which required significant repairs. The scheduled ancient monument walls form the envelope of the new building on three sides. The new structure had to respond to the acoustic requirements while also fitting within tight height restrictions.
