Dorothy Wadham Building

The Dorothy Wadham Building is a new residential quad of 137 1-bed student rooms and a new common room / teaching and conference facility for Wadham College, University of Oxford. The project is located on the Iffley Road in a residential area and the scale of the local built environment is reflected in the 3-4 storey housing blocks. In response to the client’s request for future adaptability the building structure uses a hybrid RC frame with CLT upper floors and roofs, permitting large spans between vertical structural elements. It also features CLT staircases inspired by Georgian cantilevered stairs.
